Applications: MOLMER® PMN is used in pharmaceutical formulations as a preservative. It is included in liquid injectable solutions, ophthalmic solutions and nasal or ear drops to prevent microbial growth and ensure product stability during storage. Due to its antimicrobial properties, Phenylmercuric Nitrate has also been used in topical antiseptic creams and solutions for the treatment of minor wounds and skin infections.

1 Description It occurs as white or pale-yellow powder.

(A) The mixture becomes yellow and the characteristic odor of nitrobenzene is produced.
(B) A white flocculent precipitate is produced.
(C) A white precipitate is formed which darkens slowly on boiling and allowing to stand.
(D) The lower layer is orange-yellow.
(E) Solution gives reaction of nitrates.
3 Solubility It is slightly soluble in ethanol (95%) and in glycerin; very slightly soluble in water; practically insoluble in other usual organic solvents. It is more soluble in the presence of either nitric acid or alkali hydroxides.
4 Appearance of solution Solution is colourless.
5 Inorganic mercuric compounds Not more than 0.1%.
6 Sulphated ash Not more than 0.1%.
7 Loss on drying Not more than 1.0%.
8 Assay Not less than 62.5% and not more than 63.5% of mercury (Hg), calculated on dried basis.

PACKAGING

MOLMER® PMN is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drums with double PE liners inside having bar-coded label and tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in tight, light-resistant containers.
